Back in the summer we began discussing what we might do for our team building event this year. For the past two years we have been to the Escape Rooms in Salisbury after our annual training and development day which has been really good fun. But this year we wondered what we could do that was different.
So a few weeks ago we all headed off for an afternoon to sort and pack Christmas boxes. That was such an eye opener for us and unbelievably exhausting! The Christmas boxes are sent to Bulgaria and Serbia and given to those living in poverty, the elderly and children who have been abandoned. Whilst we felt we were doing something useful it was quite sobering and made us realise how we take having a toothbrush and toothpaste for granted.
We also decided that instead of doing a Secret Santa for each other this year we would put together two Christmas boxes and donate them to The Trussell Trust Christmas Box Appeal.
We enjoyed our volunteering and have decided we would like to do some more volunteering together next year so we will be looking for something different that we can become involved with as a team. The job we do every day is about helping people in business but having an opportunity to help people in our community is something we could help with too.
December is such a difficult time to get all our team together to celebrate Christmas as there is a lot to get done in the 3 weeks of December before we close. In the past we have enjoyed a social event in October or February instead but this year I was determined that we would take some time in December to be together. So early in December we headed off to The Swan in Enford for Christmas lunch. The food and atmosphere there is great (it is an award winning pub) and it was great to have some time to chat together.
It is now full steam ahead to meet our deadlines before we sign off for our well earned Christmas and New Year break.
We wish everyone a very happy Christmas and an exciting and successful 2018.
