Having some time off over Christmas and New Year allows time to think and plan. New ideas are born and business plans developed. Its an exciting time for new businesses. The early stages of development and the prospect of doing something for yourself is motivating.
But it can be daunting too and whilst there is a lot of information to be found on the internet, trying to extract just what you need can be time consuming and over whelming.
Our own plans for 2018 include a timetable of seminars to support business owners at startup and during their growth. We have helped lots of business owners just starting out to understand what they need to do, when and how. We have helped them to understand what expenses they can claim, what taxes they will need to pay and how to keep their records to meet their obligations.
Our one to one startup consultations have been valuable to many businesses so now we want to provide that support to small groups of new business owners. It is so useful to interact with other new businesses, to share knowledge and experience and know that you are not the only one feeling unsure about what you need to do when it comes to the finances.
Our first seminar will be held in January and will include the following topics:
- Sole trader v Limited Company – which is the right business entity for you?
- Registering with HMRC
- Taxes
- Allowable expenses
- Record keeping

In February we will be running a seminar which will suit new and more established business owners who want to understand the terminology surrounding their business finances. There are so many words in finance that accountants (and bookkeepers) frequently use which can be confusing if you don’t really understand what they mean. This seminar will unlock the meaning of the terminology that you really need to know if you want to understand your finances properly. We provide our clients with regular management accounts but what exactly are they? If you don’t know and don’t understand how useful they would be to you then you will probably choose not to have them. We will make you feel at ease with the things you need to understand.
In March our seminar will cover cloud accounting and how to get the best from the software you use. In April 2019 VAT registered businesses will be required to submit VAT returns digitally and a year later all sole traders will have to submit their accounts quarterly to HMRC through software. It makes sense to get prepared and start using software in advance. We will show you how cloud accounting software can really work for you.
Our business is all about helping and supporting both new and established business and these seminars are our way of supporting you on your journey. If you would like to find out more about the seminars please complete our enquiry form with your details and we will be in touch. Alternatively give us a call on 01722 341820. The seminars will be held in our training room and will be restricted to just a few spaces so early booking is recommended.
