As we start to wind down for the Kiwi summer, it’s a good time to look back on the year that’s been.
Take time to reflect on what went well and what you might do differently next year. Not only for your business, but for your wellbeing too. Evaluate your personal or business goals, and put some thought into your plan for the year ahead. Building your plan is only going to benefit your business, and ensures you’re prepared for what 2020 will bring.
For us at Xero, we’ve had an awesome year, celebrating some great achievements.
At the Xero Awards we recognised our incredible partners for their hard work and innovative contribution to the industry. We’re very lucky to work with you and your clients to improve small business in New Zealand.
The Xero NZ Roadshow wrapped up a couple of weeks ago in Queenstown, and it was bigger than ever. The team has had endless fun on the road with the 44 events we held in 20 locations we visited. We’ve served over 7,000 coffees, travelled 39,350 kms and talked to more people than ever. Meeting so many members of our community and hearing their stories was really special.
In our half year financial results we announced that we’ve passed two million subscribers globally, as well a new initiative – Net Zero @ Xero. This initiative is our commitment to offset 100 percent of Xero’s carbon emissions for the year to 31 March 2019 and each year going forward. We are offsetting our carbon emissions by investing in environmental projects and conservation schemes across the globe, to balance out the carbon emissions produced by Xero’s operations and supply chain.
Look out for each other
December and January are a relaxing time for most Kiwis, as we escape to the beach or the lake and enjoy the sun. But while we may seem happy and relaxed, I encourage all of you to check in with each other. Before your team head out on their end of year celebrations, take the time to ask about how they’re feeling.
The Xero Assistance Programme (XAP) is here to help if you or a team member needs it. This is something I’m extremely proud of this year, providing much needed mental health support to Kiwi small businesses and their whanau.
XAP is available to all Xero partners, as well as starter, standard and premium plan subscribers, their employees, and their families. The service provides free and confidential counselling in a way that suits you.
Remember that someone might be okay today, but not tomorrow. Having conversations about wellbeing in your workplace is a good start. There are so many resources to point people to for help, including XAP.
As we move into 2020, I hope we continue to make progress towards shifting small business wellbeing. Imagine if everyone left work feeling better than when they arrived. I challenge business owners to reflect over the summer about how they could improve their team’s wellbeing and build a positive work environment. Check out our 2019 Small Business Wellbeing Report for some ideas.
I would like to say a huge thank you to our community for all your support and for choosing Xero. Stay safe these holidays, look out for each other and enjoy spending time with your loved ones.
