Online food ordering firm Zomato said all proceeds from its Gold membership subscriptions in April will go into a fund created to support restaurant workers hit by the Covid-19 lockdown.
“The ongoing lockdown is affecting certain members of our society more severely than the rest. In this hour, we must chip in for restaurant workers till things get back to normal,” the Deepinder Goyal-led company wrote in a blogpost announcing the Zomato Gold Support Fund.

The restaurant reservation firm said users can contribute to the fund by purchasing an annual Gold membership for Rs 1,200 and, in return, they will get a 2-year membership instead of 1 year.
“We will give you an additional year’s extension for free as a token of our gratitude, and all the proceeds of the membership fee that you pay today will go towards the support of restaurant workers,” it said.
Restaurants across the country have been shut for weeks now, resulting in job losses. “We want to raise as much as we can, and positively impact the lives of millions who depend either directly or indirectly on restaurant workers across the country,” wrote Zomato.
