WhatsApp is doubling the number of participants on a WhatsApp video or voice call from 4 to 8 people at a time.
The move could help it compete with popular videoconferencing app Zoom.
WhatsApp said over the last month, people on an average are spending over 15 billion minutes talking each day on WhatsApp calls which is well above any typical day before the pandemic.
WhatsApp has 400 million users in India.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has meant that many of us are isolated from friends and family. As a result, we see that people all over the world are turning to voice and video calling on WhatsApp more than ever before,” the company said in a blogpost.
WhatsApp is also available on Facebook‘s video chat device Portal.
Last week, Facebook said it is releasing a new feature that lets you video chat with multiple people through Messenger.
