At Xero, Canada holds a special place in our hearts. As someone who has had the opportunity to see our business grow since we launched in May 2018, I wanted to reflect on the progress and journey Xero and our community of accounting professionals and small businesses have made during that time.
In this short period of time, we’ve delivered on product features such as a direct bank feed with CIBC, opened a new Xero office in Toronto to accommodate our growing team and recently signed a new agreement with MNP, one of Canada’s largest accounting, tax and business consulting firms that serves 150,000 customers. It’s incredible seeing this progress and growth as we work closely with all of you to shape the future of the accounting profession in Canada.
Looking ahead, Canada continues to be a key region for Xero, and we’re excited to help foster innovation among Canadian accounting professionals and small businesses so they can share data, uncover insights, and better plan for the future. We know this starts with building a more localized product. Today, we’re pleased to announce new features customized for our community in Canada:
- We’re moving Xero’s subscription billing from USD to CAD for Canadian organizations starting in November of this year.
- We’re partnering with Movemybooks to help you convert to the cloud from desktop accounting software. Starting today, accountants and bookkeepers will be able to start converting desktop files in approximately 2-3 business days with two years of transaction history. This is great for existing businesses moving to the cloud with minimal disruption to accounting processes.
- Lastly, we’re introducing provincial returns and new Chart of Account templates for Canada that will be coming soon.

Building the future of cloud accounting in Canada
We wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of our early adopters and Xero champions in Canada. Your passion and dedication to creating a positive impact to the industry has helped pull us into the market. It has also introduced us to other accounting professionals, allowing us to demonstrate how our technology can help improve the way they work and collaborate with their clients. As we continue to adjust to the new normal and move towards recovery, we see the strength in connecting to others and leveraging the power of the Xero community.
A big thank you to everyone that’s joined us on our journey so far becoming part of the Xero community across Canada. We look forward to offering you additional features to further support you in the region.
From all of us at Xero, here’s to you Canada!
