Audio streaming service Spotify is extending its Premium Duo subscription plan to several markets including India.
Designed for couples, Premium Duo allows two individuals to get their own Spotify premium account under a single plan for Rs 149 per month. In addition, Spotify will also provide access to a special playlist called Duo Mix that will include songs both listeners will like, based on their shared listening history and updated on a regular basis.
In India, Spotify currently offers three different plans: an individual subscription available at Rs 119 per month, a family plan with support for six premium accounts at Rs 179 per month, and a student plan priced at Rs 59 per month.
In comparison, rivals Gaana and Saavn offers plans ranging from Rs 99-399 based on duration while Amazon Prime Music is bundled in with Amazon Prime subscription that is available at Rs 129 per month or Rs 999 per year.
Premium Duo was first tested by Spotify in five countries including Ireland, Denmark, and Chile in March last year and was later rolled out to 14 Latin American countries in September last year. Including today’s rollout, the service is now available in 55 markets.
New users will be able to sign up for this service with an initial one-month free trial while existing individual Premium subscribers will be able to upgrade to this plan by changing their subscription on their account. Doing so will not erase their saved music, podcasts, playlists, or recommendations.
“Premium Duo includes our extensive music and podcast catalog and everything users love about Spotify Premium. With two individual Premium accounts, you can both listen independently, uninterrupted, and get all of your personalized playlists and features tailored just for you” said Alex Norström, Spotify’s Chief Freemium Business Officer.
