Here’s some good news on jobs in times of Covid-19 — over 200,000 jobs have been advertised by a range of employers in the past four weeks, and over 25% of these were posted last week, according to job postings data tracked and curated from companies’ official job pages on LinkedIn and direct postings on top job boards.
Some of the top employers are Amazon, Google, Tech Mahindra, Walmart Labs, VMWare, IBM, Capgemini, Deloitte, JPMorgan Chase, Flipkart, Byju’s, Grofers and BigBasket, as per data collated for ET by search firm Xpheno.
Around 80,000 of the openings are entry-level positions, which is good news for fresh graduates. Junior and mid-senior level openings account for a sizeable 40%, showing that opportunities for cross-company movements at these levels are available.
Xpheno’s analysis shows over 91% of these are full-time openings and the remaining are a mix of contractual and part-time. IT and ITeS account for over 79% of the total openings, while ecommerce and BFSI account for about 15%.
Among the most advertised jobs are those for senior software engineers, software engineers, programmers and full-stack developers. Sales executives top the list of non-technical job roles.
HR heads said companies have kept job application channels active to ensure the supply of talent and a smooth return to hiring once the lockdown is lifted and work resumes, they said.
‘No Stop on Hiring’
SV Nathan, chief talent officer at Deloitte, said: “We have not put a stop on hiring. In uncertain times companies will slow down hiring, but for positions that have clear visibility, one has to continue the search.”
“Organisations have to prepare themselves for tomorrow,” he added. “We will continue to hire as per plan and client requirements,” said a Capgemini spokesperson. “The hiring will be split between freshers and laterals,” the spokesperson added.
Harshvendra Soin, chief people officer at Tech Mahindra, said: “We are looking at our internal talent, and hiring externally for niche skills.”
Marquee startups are also keeping their job postings regularly published and refreshed. Although startup job openings are down 50%, large players are scouting for talent. Online grocer Big-Basket has about 10,000 openings for its logistics roles, while Grofers has about 5,000.
“Gaming, edutech, digital content and OTT players are just announcing hiring numbers. The lockdown has meant higher consumption of digital content such as eLearning and eTutoring… also, the school season is coming,” said Kamal Karanth, cofounder, Xpheno.
