There could be a major increase in the number of consumers for whom e-commerce will be the primary channel for shopping this festive season, as they look at sourcing even mundane items such as namkeens, sweets and other groceries through online shopping apps and websites, according to a new survey.
The number of festive shoppers who will primarily use e-commerce shot up to 51%, from 27% last year, according to a pan India consumer survey by LocalCircles, which received over 300,000 responses from consumers across 330 districts of India.
The survey showed that 26% respondents listed e-commerce as their primary channel to shop this festive season, 11% said they would call local retailers and opt for home deliveries, a further 25% said they would visit local shops but also shop online, with 24% answering that they’d go to malls and markets.
In terms of their spending, 44% respondents said they’d spend between Rs 1,000-10,000, 14% said they’d spend between Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000, with only 3% answering that they’d spend over Rs 50,000 this festive season.
