This summer we redid the firm’s corporate site. The original version was terrible, but we were all so busy that we basically let it stand for almost seven full years. Nobody had time to own the project. Hard to believe, but it’s true.
We have a photographer in-house and under normal circumstances I would have sent him out into the field to get us the shots we’d want for the site. But these weren’t normal circumstances. This was pandemic New York City.
Rather than use stock photography, I asked all of the employees of the firm to go out and take photos of their own cities, towns and regions. It was an internal design contest with the best five making it to the new and improved website and all the rest sent to the firm’s instagram account.
And what we got back were some beautiful shots. They reminded me about how special this place is – advisors and staff working remotely from across the country under a shared ethos, investment philosophy and fiduciary belief system. Despite our geographic diversity, we all share a common purpose in life: To do great financial planning and wealth management work on behalf of our clients.
We live in Orange County, California and Grand Rapids, Michigan. Hilton Head, South Carolina and Portland, Oregon. The west coast of Florida and the south shore of Long Island. New Orleans and Chicago. Charlotte, North Carolina and Boston, Mass. Down south in Louisiana and up north in Rhode Island. New Jersey, Staten Island, Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx.
But we act as one, for our families and the families of our clients. For our firm and for our future. Thousands of miles of distance and yet not an inch of daylight between us.
I have a lot to be thankful for this year, despite all of the challenges and trials of 2020. My health, my family’s safety and the companionship of my friends. And right up there on this list, my team. We’re doing the work we want to do for the people we want to do it for with the people we want to do it with. What else could anyone ask for out of their career?
Feeling incredibly thankful this year and appreciative of how everything’s turned out. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
