Xero has more than 1000 connected apps in its ecosystem, all working to help small businesses and their advisors succeed. Each month we celebrate an app partner who stands out from the pack. Find out more about becoming a Xero app partner here, and you can browse the Xero App Store here.
We’re excited to announce November’s app partner of the month is Datamolino – an automated data-capture and invoice coding solution that saves small and medium-sized businesses time by reducing manual data entry. We spoke to Jan Korecky, co-founder of Datamolino, about their story and how they make lives easier for business owners and their accountants.
Problem solvers solving problems
It’s a familiar but important tale – problem solvers seeing certain behaviours and asking themselves, “how can we do it better?”. Datamolino got its start when Jan and fellow co-founder Andrej Glezl noticed the amount of manual and repetitive admin tasks that accountants and bookkeepers perform day-to-day.
“We figured there must be an easier, more straightforward way to get the key information from bills and receipts into the accounting tools,” says Jan. “There were tools for large corporations but nothing for small business. That is how the initial idea of Datamolino came about.”
Datamolino automates data capture and processing for bills, receipts and invoices. Information is automatically captured from relevant documents, then coded and exported directly to the Xero ledger, needing very little human input along the way. In fact Datamolino remembers supplier rules based on user behaviour, while allowing the user to fully control all automation settings anytime. As advocates for keeping solutions intuitive and bloat-free, the Datamolino team have aimed to make this process as simple and easy to use as possible.
“Datamolino works well for both the small business operator or any accounting practice serving small businesses. There’s hardly any reason to continue doing things manually when it comes to accounts payable processing,” Jan says.
Satisfying their customers
To help ensure that Datamolino is providing the best solution possible, Jan says that they’ve invested as heavily into customer support as they have into product development.
“We see customer support as a key feature of most apps. Supporting our customers on their automation journey is a cornerstone of what we do at Datamolino,” Jan explains.
With 4.9 stars on the Xero App Store across 322 reviews, it seems like that investment is paying off. One reviewer, Christina, says: “We have numerous companies set up in Xero and I was looking for a platform that could do line item extraction. This was the initial reason for the purchase. It does this fantastically and so much more!” She adds: “Customer support (was also a concern for me especially with larger software companies) has been superb! Friendly, helpful and so quick to get back to me. They have also sent me out random tips that further enhances the experience that I did not even realise it can do.”
Always keeping it human
By keeping close to their customers, Datamolino has been able to create what users want without overloading the product with too many features. It’s helped them stay focussed on their goal of being the best in the accounts payable automation space – a goal they’ve had since first connecting with Xero.
“Our journey has been closely connected with Xero from early on. Ever since we launched our Xero integration at Xerocon London in 2014, Datamolino has processed and automated millions of documents for thousands of Xero users,” say Jan.
Looking ahead, the future is still very much focussed on keeping people at the heart of what they do.
“We are big advocates of the human element in business, so our team is doing frequent customer interviews that inform our product roadmap. It’s important for us to keep Datamolino focused and maintain its simplicity and ease of use,” Jan finishes.
